All about toxins

Have you ever took the time to see what is in the product you use and how they might be affecting your health?

Many of our everyday products we use in and around the home have toxic chemicals in them that disrupt our endocrine system, our gut, our skin, our hormones and more. Here are a few toxins to look at on the things we use every day and some good clean products you can switch too. Choosing cleaner products can be costly so even removing one thing at a time helps your body.

Toxic ingredients to look for in your every day products:

1) Fragrance- fragrance can cause allergens, headaches, breathing difficulties. It is a blanket word used by manufactures and no one really knows what is in it. Many products have fragrance in their ingredient list such as lotions, sprays, air fresheners, perfumes, baby products, shampoos, conditioners, cleaners, shaving creams, candles, dryer sheets and more.

2) Phthalates- these are binding agents that disrupt hormones with links to decreased sperm, infertility, risk of miscarriage. In children increase obesity, eczema, allergies, and asthma. Look for BBP, DBP, DEP, DiDP, DnHP on labels.

3) Formaldehyde- often found in skincare, toothpaste, makeup, hair products, deodorants, hand soap and more. This causes irritation to eyes, skin, nose, dermatitis. It has been linked to asthma, skin cancer and leukaemia. Look for Methanol, Methyl Aldehyde, Methylene Glycol, Methylene Oxide, Formic, Aldehyde, Glyoxal, Quaterium- 15, Polyoxymethylene Urea

They are often in makeup, skin care products, baby products, toothpaste and deodorants. Look for Paraben, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben.

5) Flouride- fluoride is a neurotoxin. It affects the brain and cause memory problems, learning difficulties and is especially problematic in children's developing brains. Flouride can be found in water, toothpaste and more.

6) Aluminum- hormone disrupter and linked to neurotoxicity. Found in deodorant, makeup, lotions, moisturizers, perfume, sunscreen, toothpaste. Look for anything listed with aluminium or Synthetic Ruby Powder, Carmine C175470, Octacholrohydrate

7) Phenoxyethanol- common preservative used in cosmetics. Also used in perfumes, insect repellents and other solvents. Causes hormone issues, skin irritation, allergic reactions in infants, nervous system depressor, not to be used during pregnancy or nursing. Look for Rose either 2 phenoxyethanol, Phenoxytol, Ethylene Glycol, Optiphen.

8) Silicones- some studies suggest carcinogenic, not biodegradable, harmful to the environment. Look for words that end in cane, oxane, conol, silane or siloxane.
